green olive x black olive

Have you ever asked yourself what is the difference between a green olive and a black olive?

Are they two different species?

 Is one of them a mutant?

Or genetically altered?

I found out the difference looking up at the olive tree in front of Nicolina´s house in a small village named Ergates, outside Nicosia.
